Curriculum Overview

Northgate’s curriculum, which is high quality and ambitious, is based on the EYFS Statutory Framework, National Curriculum Statutory Guidance, Herts RE syllabus, our learning powers and values, plus rich enhancement opportunities. At the heart of our rigorous curriculum are thoughtfully designed long term plans and knowledge organisers, which identify what knowledge will be taught, which subjects will be linked and the theme which will provide the context for the learning. Whilst some subjects are taught in isolation, primarily children to work on thematic based projects that bring the curriculum together, deepen understanding and help make learning relevant. Topics are planned carefully and collaboratively to enhance vocabulary, build curiosity and engage children and develop an enthusiasm to learn, while ensuring progression. Termly themed weeks enhance excellent coverage and support quality teaching. We strive to provide a creative curriculum, underpinned by British values and our Learning Powers to develop every pupil to allow them to be successful, lifelong learners in modern Britain.

At Northgate, our well planned curriculum, delivered by excellent staff, in an ethos of care and support enables our pupils to be well rounded, empathetic young people who have a thirst for learning and respect for all around them. Children develop a strong sense of moral purpose in addition to a respect and understanding of people including those who have different characteristics to themselves.

We seek to lay the foundations of knowledge, skills and attitudes that prepare children extremely well for their next stage of education.
