Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

At Northgate, we are proud to be an inclusive school who are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum for all. We celebrate the abilities and achievements of everyone, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The school aims to create a positive learning environment which enables each child to achieve their best and become confident individuals, who feel proud of their identity and able to participate fully in school life.

At Northgate we endeavour to do our very best to ensure that all pupils feel comfortable, confident and challenged whilst they are with us. In order to do this we aim to identify early those children who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice.

We put in place appropriate provision to ensure the needs of pupils with SEND are met through reasonable adjustments/adaptations or additional provision. This is monitored regularly as part of our continuous cycle of ‘assess, plan, do, review’. Parents/carers are encouraged to meet with the class teacher or SEND Coordinator (SENDCo) to discuss their child’s progress, strengths, needs and concerns, alongside solutions to enable each child to make the very best possible progress. The Northgate SEND Information Report below provides further information for parents through a question and answer format.

Our SENDCo is Mrs L Wallace, who can be contacted between Monday and Thursday each week by email (senco@northgate.herts.sch.uk) or by phoning the school office (01279 652376).

Every Local Authority must identify the education, health and social care services in their local area that are provided for children, young people and families (age 0-25) who have SEN or disabilities. This information directory is called the Local Offer. It is essentially the services and support that are offered to families who have children or young people with special educational needs and disabilities, from across the county.
