At Northgate, our vision is to be a vibrant and innovative place to learn, where pupils are inspired by a rich, high-quality curriculum. We are proud to be a school with sustained high standards in all aspects of our children’s lives, equipping them with the skills they need for life-long learning. Our Learning Powers bring this vision to life. They help us nurture confident, independent, and reflective learners who can thrive within our respectful and engaging community. By developing these key skills and attitudes, our pupils are empowered to succeed and contribute positively to the wider world.
Each half term, we focus on one of our six Learning Powers — skills and dispositions that support every child to become an effective, enthusiastic and resilient learner.
Teamwork Tiger reminds us that learning is better together! We listen to others, share ideas, and take turns. Teamwork Tigers encourage their friends, help solve problems, and know that everyone’s contribution matters. Working as a team helps us achieve more than we could alone.
Self-Managing Monkey helps us take charge of our own learning. We set goals, organise our time, and keep focused even when things get tricky. Self-Managing Monkeys come prepared, take responsibility for their actions, and show that good learning habits make a big difference.
Independent Enquirer Elephant
Independent Enquirer Elephant is always asking questions and looking for answers. Elephants are curious learners who think carefully, research information, and make thoughtful decisions. They don’t wait to be told — they find out for themselves!
Reflective Learner Lion
Reflective Learner Lion helps us stop and think about what we’ve learned. Lions celebrate what went well and consider what could be improved next time. Reflection helps us grow, learn from mistakes, and become more thoughtful learners.
Resilient RhinoResilient Rhino shows courage and determination. When learning feels tough, Rhinos keep going and don’t give up. They understand that mistakes are part of learning and that perseverance helps us succeed. Rhinos remind us: “I can’t do it yet, but I will if I keep trying!”
Creative Thinking ChameleonCreative Thinking Chameleon loves to explore new ideas and see things differently. Chameleons are imaginative problem-solvers who adapt to change and think outside the box. They bring colour and creativity to everything they do!
At Northgate, our Learning Powers help every child develop the confidence, curiosity and character to thrive — not just in school, but throughout life.
